Hilarious Jaeger names

I noticed I haven't done a humor post in a long, long time.  So, here goes…

Being the semester break, it’s natural that me and the fam would have movie marathons galore.  One of our favorite movies this year was Pacific Rim, and so we already watched that twice this week.  Over dinner afterwards, I jokingly asked, “What if the Philippines had a jaeger?  I bet it would look like a messed up, overgrown jeepney, hohoho!!”

Apparently, my internet savvy daughter said that she did see several Philippine jaegers on the net, made by fans using a certain app.  Intrigued, I took a look and indeed there were several Philippine Jaegers out there.  Cool.

But in doing so I discovered an even better find: hilarious jaeger names.  It was only a matter of time before people with a (sometimes twisted) sense of humor would capitalize on the weird Jaeger names of the movie, like Striker Eurika and Gypsy Danger (Crimson Typhoon, now THAT’s a cool name) to come up some with ridiculous names of their own.  Some of them were so funny that I had to share them here.  Enjoy.

Goodbye Lessons Of A Dad…and thanks for the memories.

After a lot of soul-searching this Holy Week, I had to make a very hard decision.

You see.  Time is really my enemy, and I'm getting worn out juggling too many responsibilities.  I've come to the conclusion that I have to de-clutter.  I have to unload one of my activities…or else I'd go crazy.

And I've decided that the burden I have to unload (and I say this with a very heavy heart) is Lessons Of A Dad.

I love blessing people with my work, but I'd be a hypocrite if I wasn't after the monetary benefits as well…and my blog hasn't earned me a penny.  Therefore, I need to move on to more, um, lucrative endeavors.

So, I'm gonna have to say goodbye.  And this is really goodbye.

Mikey Bustos’ Opo Pinoy Style Gangnam Style parody is a riot!

I used to be a mild fan of Filipino comedian youtube sensation Mikey Bustos.  I say “used to be” because I am no longer a mild fan, but now I’m a big fan of his.  Why?

He recently made quite possibly (to Filipino minds, anyway) the best Gangnam Style parody to date.   You may have seen local news feature it or swimming around in Facebook, and I liked it so much I will post it here.  Mikey Bustos’ Opo Pinoy Style is a total riot because the lyrics are so full of light-hearted jabs at our Filipino culture.  I also love how well done the video presentation is.  Here’s the video:

If you can’t figure out the lyrics, then you can check out the (slightly imperfect) lyric video that someone else made.

I’m pretty sure you thought Mikey Bustos’ Opo Pinoy Style Gangnam Style parody is a riot as well.  Indeed, It’s More Fun In The Philippines.

I do not want to go to Japan anymore. These people are crazy!

Prepare to laugh…REALLY HARD.  But first let me give you the background behind why I said what I said in the title.

This week was really hell week for me, as it’s the ending of the first trimester in the school I work for and so we in the faculty made a mad scramble to get all the requirements in.  This is where teaching can be hazardous to your health, as there were lots of sleepless nights and aneurism-inducing frustrations (and I had a huge serving of both).

One night, while the whole high school faculty was still in the school 9pm in the evening, we really, desperately, needed to de-stress.  Luckily (and awesomely), a co-worker introduced all of us to the hilariously mean world of Japanese prank shows.

Allow me to share with you some of these videos.  I laughed so hard that tears streamed down my face.  My gosh, I hope Japanese tourism has not been too adversely affected by these things, because I, myself, do not want to go to Japan anymore.  These people are crazy!!

The first video is my personal favorite.  While Mission I is sure to get you laughing; it’s Mission II, the second half of the video, that will make you howl with laughter.  My gosh, this is so mean!

HILARIOUS imitations of Martin Nievera and Gary V!!

After being blown away by Osang’s awesome audition in The X Factor, Philippines (click here to see my article on that), I still stayed up and watched the Icons at the MOA Arena Concert.  I thought it was a fantastic night of song, but one of my favorite parts was the hilarious imitations of Filipino singing superstars Martin Nievera and Gary V., done in a funny segment by renowned comedians Jose, Wally, and Pokwang.

I’m a huge fan of both singers, and the imiations were the funniest things I’ve seen in a long time.  I don’t know if both Gary V. and Martin Nivera should be proud or pissed.  I’m sure they were good sports.

Anyway, the video…and if you’re familiar with both Martin and Gary, prepare to laugh…HARD.

Watch out Avengers, the JUSTICE LEAGUE movie is coming out soon!!

To all the comic book fanboys, you’ve probably soiled yourselves after reading my title, so I’ll give you some time to change your shorts.

You’re back now?  Ok…I was only fibbing, HAHAHA!  Well, actually, not me, but the awesome creator of the Hi I’m a Marvel/DC comic book movie parodies, once of which I featured in my previous blog.post.

Well, I subscribe to his youtube page, and I LOVED his newest output, a Justice League parody of the Avengers trailer.  I’m sure you will, too.  Yeah, yeah, I said I’d be gone for a while…but I just cannot not share this.

So, watch out Avengers, the JUSTICE LEAGUE movie is coming out soon…in an alternate universe.

The Avengers is showing this week…here’s a funny parody to celebrate

The Avengers is finally, finally showing this week here in SM-Cagayan de Oro.  To say that I’m excited is the understatement of the year.

To honor this momentous occasion, I would like to show a funny parody of the DC and Marvel comic book movies, Hi, I’m a Marvel…and I’m a DC: The Musical, which pokes fun at our recent fascination for comic book heroes on the silver screen, the upcoming Avengers movie not exempted from the barbs.

The Hi, I’m a Marvel…and I’m a DC videos are a huge hit on Youtube, with over a hundred videos available for your enjoyment.  With The Avengers just a few days away, I’d suggest you go over to the Youtube page of the maker of these awesome and hilarious videos and take a look-see.

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed the funny comic book parody video.  See you in the 3-D theaters soon.  The Avengers, here I come!!

Jon Acuff is awesome…and even more so when he’s with Wally

Easily one of my favorite Christian bloggers is Jon Acuff, owner of the website Stuff Christians Like, author of the book with the same name…both of which hilariously talk about (and mildly satirize) Christian culture.

Jon’s work is a great mix of hilarity and deep theological thought (about a 60%-40% mix, or even more towards humor in many cases).

I will get to some of his articles later on in this post, as well as making a list of his books.

What I’d like to show you right now is a video sample of how cool this guy is.  Yes, Jon Acuff is awesome…and even more so when he’s with Wally, my favorite Christian radio personality and another dude who has a similar mix of funny/depth as Jon.  As you can see, they feed off each other here, and what you get is a great, banter-filled video post.

Funny church bulletin FAILS. Very humorous stuff.

In the other blog I contribute to, I posted a very funny article about church bulletin FAILS.  I got it from an email sent to me by a friend, and I couldn’t help but laugh out loud.

Here’s some of the funnies in that article, which totally shows the need for proofreaders:

•    Ladies, don’t forget the rummage sale. It’s a chance to get rid of those things not worth keeping around the house. Bring your husbands.

•    Don’t let worry kill you off – let the Church help.

•    Eight new choir robes are currently needed due to the addition of several new members and to the deterioration of some older ones.

•    Low Self Esteem Support Group will meet Thursday at 7 PM .. Please use the back door.

•    A bean supper will be held on Tuesday evening in the church hall. Music will follow

•    Irving Benson and Jessie Carter were married on October 24 in the church. So ends a friendship that began in their school days.

There a lot more where that came from.  My article has over 20 of these church bulletin fails, and what’s so hilarious is that all of them, bloopers and all, were actually used/announced.  You can see them by clicking here.

DOT’s It’s More Fun in the Philippines slogan…great idea!!

I’m really getting into the It’s More Fun In The Philippines campaign from our Department Of Tourism (DOT).  Think what you may of the slogan (some don’t like it), but I think it shows a pretty good grasp of the modern/internet culture by making a meme out of it.  I think the guys at DOT have spent some time at 9gag and looking at demotivational posters much.  Now, every photoshop-savvy Filipino is getting into making an It’s More Fun In The Philippines meme. I wish I know my way around photoshop.  🙁

Here are several of my favorite It’s More Fun In The Philippines pics.  Enjoy!  Oh, and indeed, friends who live abroad, I invite you to give the Philippines a visit.  Cagayan de Oro especially.

These grandpas be shufflin’ with the best of them. LMFAO eat your heart out!

Here’s my first humor post of the year, and the vid is something me and my daughter watch over and over again, being both very amused and very impressed each time.

It seems that LMFAO’s Party Rock Anthem has not only caught on with the young. These grandpas be shufflin’ with the best of them. LMFAO, eat your heart out!

The original video of that is here, which was taken at a Fiddler’s Convention a while back.

Everyday grandpa’s shufflin’! It’d be awesome if LMFAO did another Party Rock Anthem video, this time including these gentlemen.

Very funny post from a dad blog I subscribe to

I subscribe to many dad blogs and one of these blogs, Single Dad Laughing, made one hilarious post that I’d like to share here.

On his Facebook page he posted this question:  “What is something you’ve found yourself saying to a child that you never thought you would?”

The answers he got back were incredibly funny.  Here are some of my favorites:
  • I won’t always be able to hold your hand while you poop.
  • Your bum probably hurts because you ate too much chocolate.
  • Do not play tug of war with the dog using your teeth.
  • Take the turtle out of your underwear! NOW!
  • You’re gonna have to wear something besides gloves and shoes.
  • Your pee-pee does not need glitter.
  • Sweetie, ‘Alcohol’ isn’t the best name for your new bear…
  • All right. Who wrapped the dog in duct tape?
  • Why are there butt marks on my scanner?
I’m afraid I don’t have anything to contribute here.  Maybe you do?  Check out his post here (there’s many more than what I posted above), which links to his other posts on the same subject, since there’s way too much hilarity for just one post.

This is what happens when you play chess against Chuck Norris

My student showed me this pic earlier in school.  It made me roar with laughter.  Scroll down to see it…slowly.

Um, you win Mr. Chuck Norris!

Spoiler alert: How BREAKING DAWN ends…

For all of you who can’t wait to see Breaking Dawn in the movies, here’s a spoiler alert: how the film ends.  Enjoy!

Haha!  Go Blade!!  Sorry, guys…I’m just a bit sick of all the sparkly vampire ruckus that’s been floating around lately.  Just had to give a light moment of vindictive humor for the guys.  Big thanks to my cousin, Ray, who posted this gem on Facebook.

Improve communication in marriage with Gary Chapman’s classic book, The Five Love Languages

Husbands and boyfriends of the world, don’t you wish you had the MANSLATER to sort out communication troubles with your leading lady?  (See video below…very funny)

Kidding aside, husbands and wives surely do experience communication problems…and it could drive us crazy!!  Of course, we love our spouses, but the big question is: do we EFFECTIVELY COMMUNICATE that love?

Presenting: death metal vocal exercises…and you thought it wasn’t real singing.

I’m not a big fan of death metal.  I’ve always thought that it was just a bunch of long-haired, overgrown boys screaming “rararararAAAAAAAAAARGH!!” accompanied by banging drums and guitar riffs.  It’s not real singing, and quite non-musical if you as me

However, I guess I have to take that back…because in the video below, you’ll see some actual death metal vocal exercises!  And you thought it wasn’t real singing. Check out the vid.

This is not the first time I was proven wrong.

A Halloween constume that disturbed me, but admittedly made me chuckle.

Remember, dads, our kids hero worship us and consider us their heroes.  We should do our utmost to be models and mentors to our children, positively influencing them to be great adults themselves one day.

Then I see this Halloween costume that disturbed me, but admittedly made me chuckle.

What in the world was he smokin’ (pun intended) when he thought of this getup for him and his son?  I saw this on Facebook and most of the comments were praising the dad for his creativity and…well, the over-all cuteness of it.

I was not pleased.

Our kids are like marble, and we, dads, are like artists armed with hammer and chisel.  We could either make a masterpiece, or make a mess.

Sure, this is really creative or really cute…and you may think I’m overreacting; but please know that children copy what we do, they’ll love what we love, they’ll think the way we think.  Our influence is that great.

And another thing…if we do some naughty things behind their backs, they’re also bound to find out:

Happy Halloween everyone.

Funny Facebook status messages (spelling FAIL). This is funny stuff.

The teacher in me is sometimes compelled to correct my students’ Facebook message spelling errors.  I’m sure they get irked sometimes, but I can’t let them get away with common Filipino mistakes like confusing “his” and “her” (the Filipino counterpart has no gender); you’re vs. your; their vs. there vs. they’re; and so on.

However, if the following funny Facebook status messages (spelling FAIL, actually) were done by any of my students, I don’t know if I’d fail them on the spot, or I would perform hara-kiri.  Any way you look at it, it’s funny stuff…unless you’re their English teacher.

Let’s hope I don’t see any of my students, or any of my readers for that matter, make unintentionally funny Facebook status messages like these.

Courtesy of typhoon Pedring: the Philippine submarine!

I hope I don’t ruffle anyone’s feathers by making light of the conditions up in Manila right now, thanks to typhoon Pedring, but this is way too funny (and sad, in a way) to pass up.

Kidding aside, my thoughts and prayers go out to those who are facing difficulties because of yet another mega-storm hitting Luzon.  I hope my many relatives who live in those parts are ok.
