My family should be a top priority, and so Lessons Of A Dad will take a hiatus

You may be wondering why I haven’t been busy up in here much lately, so I’ll use this article to make it official: I’m going to have to take a hiatus from blogging and even from online life in general for a while.  I don’t know exactly how long, but I hope you understand why.

Part of the reason why I decided to do so is because of a message by one of my favorite speakers, Andy Stanley.  He was visited by Focus On The Family and they had a fantastic talk called Setting Your Family as the Highest Priority.

The talk was a factor that snapped me back into what has been blinding me for a while now: that I have a maddening amount of things on my plate and that my family has been on the losing end of all this busyness.

It’s a bitter irony that me putting effort in posting on Lessons Of A Dad (and other projects) has robbed my children from getting lessons from their dad.

I’ve done my kids a disservice by spending way too much time in front of my laptop.  And as a classic example of Children See, Children Do, what did my kids start doing?  They’ve been spending too much time in front of the computer screen as well.  They’re not bad kids, far from it…but I know I can do better as a dad, but I need to shave some things off to get that done.

So I need to take a hiatus from the online world.  This article will serve as my last piece for a while.  Don’t worry, folks.  I’m seeing this as a step backward so that I can take two steps forward.  I still have a lot, a LOT, to say…and I may surprise you with something new.

Therefore, feel free to subscribe to this blog and like me on Facebook, add me on Twitter, and all that.  Also check out my articles on parenting, marriage, ministry, and health/nutrition while you wait for my return.  I’ll see you soon.

  1. You're good! AS long as you have to spend time with your family. They're indeed a priority! you must have to take this chance….I need some time to spend with my family as well but it is just too much thing to do. I don't want to get backed up with all stuff in the end…so maybe after the holiday…

  8. Hi! I can truly relate to this. I do feel that too. Sometimes, I just sit back and say I won't blog for a week or even 2 weeks because I am losing it out on the very people I created my blog for – my kids! A blog can be disorienting because sometimes I feel it is robbing me of the present. I have drawn a time schedule and hope a time's up, rise from the laptop alarm would work. A hiatus is a break, each blogger truly deserves. Good luck and wishing you a great time with your kids. One step backward, 2 steps forward!
